At Kore Design Co we strive to tell a story with every piece created through the use of natural and symbolic materials. The use of ethically sourced bones, real crystals and gemstones, dried flowers and mushrooms help reflect the cycles of life and the beauty found in nature. When choosing materials, ethics and sustainability are central to everything we create. From our jewelry to our skull displays, our commitment to education and storytelling is present in every piece. Let's explore the materials that make Kore Design Co’s jewelry and displays truly one-of-a-kind.
Bones. A symbol of transformation and regeneration.
Animal Bones are at the heart of many of our designs, representing a symbol of transformation and regeneration. Bones are an amazing part of the body system and are responsible for many roles in organisms' lives. Some of those roles include the creation and regeneration of blood as well as becoming adaptable and changing in response to trauma or environment. When bones break they regrow and reshape themselves stronger. It is because of these abilities, bones have been used for cultural and spiritual practices such as tool making and divination for thousands of years.
It is believed that bones hold the connection to the animal spirits they once served. We personally chose to use bones that belong to animals that would be naturally found where Appalachia meets the Midwest. Some of these animals include deer, beaver, raccoons, coyotes, bobcats, and more. Many of these animal symbols have origins in Native American and African beliefs that have been shared within the Appalachian communities. Today we still find these beautiful symbols being shared and used to spiritually empower ourselves.
Bones serve as a reminder of the natural cycles that continue around us as well as provide strength and empowerment making them a powerful material in our art. At Kore Design Co you can find bones incorporated into our intentional jewelry collections as resin pendants, wire wrapped earrings, and hand carved pendants. You can also find bones such as skulls used in our unique lantern and terrarium displays. Every bone used in our jewelry collections and displays is ethically sourced from small businesses within the U.S ensuring respect for our natural world and its creatures. It is our commitment to Gaia to never purchase bones from poachers, trappers, or unethical sources.
Crystals. Nature's source of Energy.
Crystals are much more than just beautiful stones; They are believed to hold spiritual and healing properties. Each crystal possesses its own unique qualities from protection to calming depending on their atomic structure and the vibrations they create. A great example of this is how Quartz has been used in technology due to its piezoelectric properties. When quartz is under stress it generates an electrical charge at a specific frequency (32,768 Hz) that makes it perfect for use in oscillator circuits found in watches and smartphones. It is also due to frequency that quartz is often used in Chakra Alignments and Eastern medicine. By wearing the crystal, our body's energetic field interacts with this frequency and creates balance. We incorporate crystals into both our intentional jewelry and art displays to create pieces that resonate mindfulness and spiritual connection.
At Kore Design Co we choose a variety of crystals for their properties and symbolism. Some of the crystals you will find in our work include Labradorite, Jaspers, Quartz, Obsidian, Mookaite, and many more. Our crystals, whether they are beads, raw, or tumbled stones will never be dyed or reconstructed. All of our stones are ethically sourced and purchased from local shops in our area. Most of our crystals can be found in our jewelry collections such as “The Greeks”, a series that features styles for 6 different Greek Gods and Goddesses. For example, our Persephone bracelet is created by using peach moonstone, snowflake obsidian, and Grey wood beads in various patterns. You can also find crystals as well as hypoallergenic metals like stainless steel, brass, copper, and sterling silver in our earring and necklace collections.
Flora, Mushrooms, and Moss. Capturing Nature’s Beauty Forever
At Kore Design Co we use preserved flora, mushrooms, and moss in our displays and resin pendants to capture nature's beauty in a long lasting piece. Flowers have held symbolic meanings in cultures across the world for centuries. From weddings to funerals we use flowers to tell stories and add elements of emotion to the events that happen in life. Roses have long been seen as a symbol of devotion and romance while Aloe plants are often gifted during times of grief. Even The Farmers Almanac often includes a section on flowers and their symbolism.
We work with small local businesses to purchase dried flora that would normally be considered waste. Carefully hand selecting each flower for its beauty and symbolism, many of our flora are considered wildflowers or weeds and are grown by florists. Thoughtfully incorporating flora in our displays assists in telling their unique stories. You may find Strawflower representing immortality for the long lasting colors, or Moss for protection and new beginnings. All flora found in our displays are sealed with a polyacrylic spray to ensure long lasting colors and textures.
